Explain your idea further
Many teams throughout the uni are struggling to put their strongest teams on the fields because a lot of players may have university as late as 3PM on Wednesdays. When we have away games and with the new coach sharing system some teams are leaving as early as half 9 to reach fixtures in places like London or Cardiff, meaning they would have to choose between uni and sport for the entire terms worth of Wednesdays! With the university falling so many places in the BUCs leagues over the past few years surely it is important now to be able to put out a solid team as often as possible with every sport! This is why I think that for people who have paid a membership fee for a sports team should finish university no later than 11am on Wednesdays, meaning that on most weeks players won’t have to choose between university and football, they’d be able to do both.
How would your idea benefit students?
It would benefit students by allowing them to attend both university and their sporting fixtures. This would mean they would not miss any important lecture or seminar content as well as being able to play their favourite sport and get some healthy exercise at the same time. It would also help increase the university bucs rankings as the stronger players who have to attend university instead of play football would now be able to do both.
How could your idea be implemented?
This idea could be implemented by creating timetables where university is finished by 11am, moreso for those who have paid a membership fee onto one of the sporting societies through the union website. I know that lectures can go on till as late as 7pm so surely there are other hours of other days that these Wednesday sessions can be moved too.
Due to the limited lecture halls and the selective group this is intended to effect, this would be better actioned as student-selected timetabling. It is a simple online process that has been performed in America since the 90s.
